The Camogie Assoc-iation has launched a new initiative for parents and their teenage daughters to get into the sport via their local clubs.

Made possible with €10,000 funding from the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund, the six-week programme – titled You & Me Play Camogie – encourages girls aged 12 to 14 to learn how to play the Gaelic game as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Applications are now being accepted, and eight clubs throughout Ireland will be chosen to participate in the pilot programme.
Camogie Association president Aileen Lawlor said the national governing body for women’s equivalent to hurling was “delighted to launch this exciting new initiative for parents and their teenage daughters.

“Health and well-being, and leading a fun and active lifestyle, are central elements of the programme, and so too encouraging daughters and parents to try the sport of camogie together.”

Lawlor added that the initiative “builds further on the camogie development programme that we have with units nationwide, and You & Me Play Camogie adds another dimension to our initiatives which encourage all ages to try the sport of camogie.”
Clubs can apply online to participate in the programme at www.camogie.ie. The application deadline is Wednesday 26 March at 5pm.
