A university student whose effort to steal computers from his college ended with a broken leg has been handed a suspended sentence.

Femi Adekele, 25, pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary at Dublin City University on two dates in December 2012.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard how Adekele had stolen the computers because he planned to make a fortune developing a new computer game called ‘Angry Pigs’ to take on the popular Angry Birds, the Irish Independent reported on 4 February.

Adekele and his friend jumped out of a window on the night of 22 December 2012 to get away from security guards.
When Adeleke broke his leg, his friend left him overnight in a bush at the college and returned to wheel him to safety the next day. They were then spotted by security guards, the court heard.

Adekele was later connected to another attempted burglary on the computer lab earlier that same month.
Judge Martin Noland noted that Adekele – originally from Nigeria, but now an Irish citizen – had a good history of employment and no previous convictions, and handed him a two-year suspended sentence.
