Maureen Brogan has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Community Credit Union following the departure of Aidan O’Brien after a 17-year tenure.

“I am delighted to take the helm at an organisation that I have enjoyed working in for over 14 years,” said Brogan of her new role. “Credit unions have long held an important role in Irish society and amid all the challenges we have faced over the last few years, the future also presents some exciting opportunities.

“At Community Credit Union, we are dedicated to offering a full range of personal financial services to our members, providing a real alternative to other financial institutions. With the support of management, staff, volunteers and the board of directors, I look forward to steering our credit union and meeting member needs into the future.”

Brogan, the third of seven children who grew up on a small farm in Co Sligo, credits her parents with instilling in her the importance of education to achieve her goals.

“Through their encouragement and hard work, my siblings and I were afforded the privilege of being able to advance to third level education and it is from this background that I stand proud to be CEO of Community Credit Union.”

Philip Doyle, president of the board of directors, expressed the board’s delight at Brogan accepting the position.

“Maureen would be very familiar to a lot of our members having dedicated the last 14 years to Community Credit Union, and her appointment as CEO very much guarantees a steady continuity of service. We feel very fortunate to have someone of Maureen’s calibre and experience on board and we pledge our continued support and wish her every success.

“Operating a credit union has never been more challenging or demanding as in current times. It requires dedication and commitment from all involved. We firmly believe that Community Credit Union is well positioned to meet the needs of our expanding membership.
Doyle added: “Making our credit union the best it can be for members is our priority and a task willingly taken on by Maureen, the management team, all the staff, the board and volunteers who give so tirelessly of their time. We look forward to this new chapter in the history of our credit union.”

Community Credit Union provides financial services on a co-operative basis for all, offering value in savings and loans as well as a broad range of other services and products, including an online banking facility at communitycu.ie and a mobile app, with additional services being rolled out over the coming months.

CCU was formed in 2010 through the merger of Premier Credit Union with Clonsilla Credit Union. Following a second merger in 2015 with West Cabra Credit Union, CCU now has four offices, 42 staff and a membership exceeding 35,000, with assets of around €98 million.
