Immigrants who want to apply for re-entry visas have been reminded that there are no longer walk-in services available at the GNIB.

Attendance is now “by appointment only” via the new website at reentryvisa.inis.gov.ie – and even emergency appointments must be applied for online.

The Department of Justice adds that the limited daily number of emergency appointments “are only available in the immediate unforeseen event of a family bereavement or serious illness abroad of a family member, and you must be travelling within the next two days. Documentary evidence is required.”

Justice also reminded visa-requiring non-EEA nationals that re-entry visas can be applied for by registered post.

“There is no necessity to attend at the public office and INIS urges all applicants to make full use of the postal service insofar as possible.”

The department says postal applications “are processed as quickly as possible, usually within 10 working days or so” provided that correct documentation is supplied, and plenty of time is allowed in advance of travel.
