Serena Williams has been named as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year for 2015.
Williams is the 10th female to receive the award since 1954, and the first female sole recipient since Mary Decker in 1983.
Williams is also the first tennis player to win the award in 23 years, after Arthur Ashe won it in 1992.
“This year was spectacular for me,” she commented on Twitter. “As I always say, it takes a village, it’s not just one person.
“This is not just an accomplishment for me, but for my whole team. I am beyond honoured. I love you guys! 2016?”
